Wayne HealthCare Honors Vicky Henderson with "Vicky’s Closet"

Vicky Henderson, a beloved social worker at Wayne HealthCare, devoted 38 years to supporting patients and families with compassion and dedication. Her heart was evident in every aspect of her work, and her legacy continues to inspire us today. Vicky passed away in 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer, leaving behind a profound impact on our community.

In honor of Vicky’s unwavering commitment to helping others, Wayne HealthCare has established "Vicky’s Closet," a resource designed to assist patients in need as they transition from hospital care to home. This initiative was made possible through a generous grant from Wal-Mart and embodies the spirit of service that Vicky exemplified every day.

Often, patients arrive at the hospital under challenging circumstances—whether due to accidents requiring clothing removal for treatment or economic hardship. Vicky’s Closet provides essential clothing and hygiene items to ensure that these patients can leave the hospital with dignity and comfort.

We were honored to welcome Vicky’s family to see the closet and witness how it will continue her legacy of care. We are also grateful for the support of the Wayne HealthCare Foundation, Wayne Hospital Auxiliary, Wal-Mart community grants, and our five dedicated volunteers—all retirees of Wayne HealthCare—who manage and maintain the closet.

The Greenville Wal-Mart team played a crucial role in helping our volunteers stock the closet, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to them.

For those in the community who wish to contribute, monetary donations to the Wayne HealthCare Foundation are the most effective way to support Vicky’s Closet and other essential health programs. Donations can be made online at www.waynehealthcare.org/foundation. Additionally, service organizations and school groups interested in organizing fundraisers or donation drives can contact the Wayne HealthCare Foundation to learn more about how to get involved.
